Purina Joins Primient's Sustainable Agriculture Program
Primient, a producer of food and industrial ingredients made from plant-based, renewable sources, has announced that Nestlé Purina, the pet care brand, has joined its sustainable agriculture program. Through the program, Purina will sponsor 200,000 acres of corn grown in the USA.
Primient's sustainable agriculture program supports Purina's net zero commitment by allowing greater visibility of its environmental footprint beyond their facilities, including the practices used by enrolled farms as well as progress reports outlining the impact of the sustainable corn growing program.
The Primient sustainable agriculture program includes nearly 1.5 million acres of corn. It is delivered in partnership with Truterra, the sustainable solutions business of Land O'Lakes, one of America's largest farmer-owned cooperatives, and uses cutting-edge technology to support growers in targeting and measuring the impact of their agricultural practices across the year, allowing them to make more informed decisions around key resource usage as well as actively monitoring crop and soil health throughout the growing season.
"Purina is proud to support farmers' leadership on sustainability as we continue bolstering our agricultural initiatives across the country," said Jack Scott, Vice President of Sustainable Sourcing at Nestlé Purina. "Partnerships with reputable organizations like Primient and Truterra enhance our sourcing of sustainable ingredients critical to feeding 51 million dogs and 66 million cats each year and promote conservation."
"We are thrilled to partner with Purina to achieve our mutual sustainability ambitions: supporting sustainable agriculture, while also supporting Nestlé Purina's net zero commitment," added Laura Kowalski, Global Sustainability Manager. "We are committed to driving measurable impact at the farm level, which is helping to increase sustainable farming practices throughout the value chain. This partnership is a great example of our principles in action."
"Scaling sustainable agriculture truly requires many partners," concluded Jason Weller, President of Truterra. "It takes farmers and their trusted advisors, ag retailers, as well as committed value chain partners such as Primient and Nestle Purina. Truterra is honored to be working alongside these groups to make an impact on sustainable grain production."
